What is NOLA Over the Edge: SWAT Edition?
NOLA Over the Edge is a unique fundraising venture in which participants raise funds/pledges (a minimum of $1,000) in exchange for a once-in-a-lifetime experience to RAPPEL 25 stories down NOLA's Benson Tower, RIDE in a helicopter & SWAT Train with Louisiana's finest at the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Training Facility, while raising much needed funds for Special Olympics Louisiana athletes! Each participant receives a pre-assigned time for their rappel so you can invite your friends to cheer you on!
Why should I participate?
You will not only get the experience of a lifetime, but you will also help thousands of Special Olympics Louisiana athletes. Athletes have gained self confidence, athletic ability, friendships and empowerment through Special Olympics programs.
Meet George! George is currently our highest 2018 fundraiser and is rappelling after being inspired by his daughter, Zoe!
"A few years ago I raised money to support Special Olympics Texas and rappeled a 20 story building in Houston. Now I am ready to raise money once again for Special Olympics Louisiana and rappel down the even taller Benson Tower in New Orleans this December! My inspiration continues to be my beautiful daughter Zoe who is braver than anyone I know. Zoe faces challenges every day far greater than I can even imagine as she was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome in 2013, which severely limits her ability to do many of the things many of us take for granted, including walking, talking, eating, etc. Seeing the faces on the athletes who have a true joy for life is very inspiring, and it is a true honor to support such a wonderful organization."
Sometimes fundraising can be intimidating. Here are some tips to get you inspired and help you raise the $1,000 minimum required to go Over the Edge. It's not as challenging as you think, and we are here to support you if you need it!
Here are some things you can do to help raise funds:
Personalize your website: Add a picture, some information about yourself, or a short paragraph about what you're doing.
Share your new personal fundraising page: Use your social media channels and email to send your personal link that provides a secure site where users can donate directly to Special Olympics Louisiana, and immediately reflect on your fundraising page.
Set goals: The minimum is $1000, but that can seem daunting. Set smaller goals along the way and encourage people to help you reach them!
Add an incentive: Offer perks to your friends and family for donating! Bake them cookies, clean your sister's room if she donates, be creative and have fun with it!
